While leading Design Technology for Amazon Ads' Brand Innovation Lab, I was lucky enough to assist with unlocking an opportunity for Pepsi to partner with Amazon Ads, IMDb, and Alexa to build the Cheetos Hands Free House for SXSW.

My role in this campaign was to lead efforts required to make the virtual experience come to life, allowing Amazon's customers to experience each room of the Hands Free House in 3D. The below proof of concept unlocked the VR tour experience and marked the first in-app Ads VR Tour experience for Amazon.

To date, this is one of the most fun and rewarding projects I've worked on. Don't take my word for it, check out what Fox 7 in Austin had to say about it. On mobile, the experience taps into a user's mobile device's accelerometer allowing them to navigate each room without swiping the screen. As a finishing touch, I incorporated sound design to truly immerse the customer in our Hands Free House.

Amazon Ads partnered with Tyson to create a unique rewardable AR experience. The project's brief stated that the advertiser wanted to create an experience where a customer could use their handheld device's camera to scan an egg resulting in the customer receiving a coupon code for a free Jimmy Dean sausage. Alex was responsible for prototyping the pre-sales request and building the production execution. The launch of this experience marked several firsts for Amazon Ads, including first AR ad experience and first Amazon custom landing page to utilize handheld device cameras.

Amazon Ads partnered with L'Oreal to create a unique product suggestion experience. Customers were given the ability to answer a few questions about their hair type and received product recommendations. For this project, I was responsible for pre-sales prototyping, development, and launch.

Each year, HPE holds its Discover conference. I've had the fortune of contributing to three Discovers for the HPE DEV program. Each year I've made it a goal to outdo the prior year's Discover execution.

Leading up to Discover '19, it was up to me to re-imagine the booth space, lead the content creation, and stand up the technical infrastructure to support the activities. I delivered an innovative space where participants could join technicals talks about HPE's open source offerings, participate in code challenges for great prizes, or play our custom-built game, Hack Shack Attack. To keep attendees and the broader community informed about our Hack Shack activities we launched the Hack Shack website.

Crafting the space required brushing up on my SketchUp skills to deliver the room specs to our build teams.

As a result of delivering a truly innovative experience for conference-goers, the Hack Shack received the highest attendance and rating when compared to the other conference booths. A true win for the HPE DEV program and its team.

During my team at HPE, I had the pleasure of working as Head of UI Design and Development and leading a team of UI/UX Engineers, Researchers, Producers, and UI/UX Designers. While operating in this role, my team delivered HPE's open source design system which was leveraged across seven internal as-a-Service product teams. The introduction of HPE's Design System allowed internal aaS team to eliminate UI/UX consulting contracts resulting in $10mm saved annually.

Since I first began developing websites, I've been a big open source enthusiast. Developing and designing the HPE Developer Portal was an honor. In addition to the open-source libraries I've had the pleasure of contributing towards, I gave back to the open-source community by creating the HPE Developer portal for HPE's Developer program team.

This project required a custom-designed CMS built from scratch. For authoring page content, I created a modular Content Block system using HPE's React UI/UX library, Grommet. The dynamic content block system allowed content authors, HPE Developer's marketing team, to preview their page layouts in realtime.

Wouldn't it be cool if you could provision VMs like dressing a sundae? A few rainbow sprinkles here, a mongo DB there, perfect. In this prototype for Hewlett Packard Enterprise's OneSphere, I set out to envision a new way for developers to provision VMs with their favorite stack, on the fly.

For the 2015 Realtor.com Listings campaign, I designed and developed a number ticker engines media units, mimicking a train station's departure board. The ticker engine was built on top of Greensock's GSAP platform, providing a smooth journey from prototype to production.

This campaign kicked off the Realtor.com re-design with Elizabeth Banks.

Left as rain has been a pet project between a close friend and myself since 2007. Together, we designed and developed the Left as rain brand and website. While we put the brand to rest many years ago, the site sees a fair amount of traffic and a following still exists.

Working with Illustrator Kyle Platts to design and develop advertising for The American Museum of Natural History yielded a fun, rich, and interactive experience.

The magnifying glass functionality was built as a jQuery plugin. The circle masks out a larger image of the illustration and pans it depending on where the cursor is.

Opening their doors in 1975, Olde Towne School for Dogs has a deep history in the Washington DC metro area. For this project, I hired a DC-based photographer, Cade Martin, to capture great shots of the building, dogs, and dog trainers. We had a vision of elegant type with vivid photography to showcase the long-standing business. As the site rarely sees updates, we chose a static build to allow for ease of deployment and fast loading performance.
